See it in action

Why your laptop.
Not a paper notebook.

Paper gets lost. Paper runs out. Paper can't search itself. This does none of those things.

Password-protected

Your entries never touch a server. Not cloud-synced, not backed up remotely — completely inaccessible to anyone without your password. Write the thoughts you've never said out loud.

Unlimited pages, forever

A paper journal fills up, gets lost, or falls apart. This one doesn't. Every entry, every photo, every thought — still there years later, exactly as you left it.

macOS desktop
Designed entirely by you

Fonts, colours, backgrounds, layouts — all customisable. A space that looks and feels like you are the ones you actually return to. Paper can't do that.

No new habit required

Your laptop is already open. The app sits there with it — no bag to remember, no separate device, no friction between the thought and the page. It's just there.

Why it works

Write it down.
Keep it yours.

01

Memory that lasts

Unwritten memories fade within hours. A single paragraph today becomes irreplaceable in five years — the specific detail, the exact feeling, the version of you that existed on that day.

02

Clarity in real time

Writing forces organisation. The moment you put something into words, your brain stops holding it and starts understanding it. Problems that felt enormous often shrink to their actual size on the page.

03

A private archive of you

Over time, your journal becomes a record of your own becoming — full of evidence that you grew, changed, survived things you thought you wouldn't. That document belongs to no one but you.

Take yourself
on a coffee date.

Wherever your laptop opens, Identity Department is already there — turning ordinary moments into ones worth keeping.

The science

What it actually feels like

On looking back

Five years from
now, you'll be glad
you started today.

Not everything you write has to matter. Some days it's a rant. Some days it's a letter to yourself you'll never send. Some days it's just what you had for breakfast and a picture of the sky — and that's exactly what it should be.

The mundane is the material. That specific kind of tired from a Tuesday in April. The way a good coffee date with yourself felt like a reset. The thing you were afraid to want that you eventually got. These things disappear if you don't write them down.

Years from now, you'll open an entry from today and remember exactly how this period felt. Not a filtered version — the real one. That version of you is worth preserving.

Capture the ordinary before it becomes the past you wished you'd paid more attention to. The small, specific, unremarkable moments are the ones you'll want back most.

the quiet moment
you keep promising yourself.

Questions

Before you
decide —

What exactly is Identity Department? +
A private desktop app for Mac and Windows laptops and desktops. It's a journaling app built around who you're becoming — not just what happened today. You get a journal, a customisable profile, a GIF calendar to track your year in feeling, a vision board, and a password-protected case file for your most private thoughts. Everything stays on your machine. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Is my data actually private? +
Completely. Identity Department stores everything locally on your computer — no server, no cloud, no account. Your journal entries, photos, and private notes never leave your machine. The app is also password-protected, so even if someone has access to your laptop, they can't get in without your password.
What devices does it work on? +
Mac and Windows laptops and desktop PCs. It is not available on mobile or iPad — intentionally. It is built for the laptop on purpose: a dedicated space away from the noise of your phone, where you can actually sit with your thoughts.
What makes this different from a paper journal or another app? +
Paper journals run out of pages, can be found, and can't be customised to feel like you. Other journaling apps store your data in the cloud, require subscriptions, and often feel clinical. Identity Department is private, permanent, fully yours aesthetically, and lives on your desktop — already where you spend your time. No subscription. No running out of space. No one reading your words.
When does it launch and what does early access mean? +
Launch is coming soon. Joining the waitlist means you'll be notified before anyone else, with a price locked in below the public launch rate. No payment required to join — just your email. One message when it's ready.
Is there a free trial? +
Early access members will receive details on trial options when the app launches. The waitlist also comes with a discounted launch price that won't be available after the public release. Joining costs nothing — it only takes your email.
